Most beautiful view of Dresden on the Elbe Cycle Path

Dresden's most famous monument is the equestrian statue of Augustus the Strong, better known as the Golden Rider. It was created between 1732 and 1734 and depicts the Saxon Elector Frederick Augustus I. The monument is gilded with gold leaf and depicts the famous ruler in Roman armor, riding eastward on a rearing Lipizzaner stallion. Based on designs by court sculptor Jean Joseph Vinache, the statue was hammered in copper and fire-gilded by metalsmith Ludwig Wiedemann. The Waldschlößchen Bridge is one of Dresden's most famous Elbe crossings—and not just because of its views. Its construction sparked much controversy in the 1990s and even led to the Dresden Elbe Valley losing its UNESCO World Heritage status. Today, it connects the city's districts and offers sweeping views over the Elbe meadows and toward the Old Town.
