Quakenbrück (Low German: Quokenbrügge) is a town in the Osnabrück district of Lower Saxony, situated on the Hase River. It is the administrative seat of the Samtgemeinde (collective municipality) of Artland, which it forms together with the municipalities of Badbergen, Menslage, and Nortrup. Quakenbrück is the historical, economic, and cultural center of the Artland region, located between the Osnabrück Northland and the Oldenburg Münsterland. The most striking example of public art is the Damme Sculpture Trail. Diverse artworks in the city center invite visitors to linger and contemplate. These include figures by nationally renowned artists, as well as works such as the "Fool's Column," one of Damme's landmarks, which was created by students of the Damme Secondary School and erected in 1999. A total of 44 sculptures are now located at 37 locations in Damme's city center.
