In Moor lane is a byway that runs over In Moor in Nidderdale. This section is fun on a mountain bike, either as a descent towards Scar House reservoir or as a climb up onto the moor. It drops off the moor to the reservoir quite steeply, so watch out! This track is used by the Nidderdale Way long distance walking trail, so watch out for walkers.

There is a small shelter on the West side of the Dam along the access wall which has seats inside ideal for a picnic out of the wind and rain! (Although the birds also agree)

The reservoir was built to supply water to the Bradford area of West Yorkshire. It was built by Bradford Corporation between 1904 and 1919, under an Act of Parliament in 1890 which also authorised the corporation to construct three other reservoirs in upper Nidderdale.

This chimney was last used in the 1870s, breathing out lead and sulphur dioxide vapours... air is cleaner now around here! Back then, peat, wood and coal were the fuel for the process of smelting. There is an information plaque on the side of the chimney, with some more interesting facts about this small smelting mill. Interesting stuff, but I am glad these things are out of operation these days!

Completed in 1936 Scar House Reservoir was built to supply water to the Bradford area. It was built after Angram reservoir which is directly upstream and after Gouthwaite reservoir located a few miles downstream. The dam is 55m high in the middle.

Angram reservoir was begun in 1904 but due to the outbreak of WW1 it took until 1917 to complete it. It's made using concrete pillars and huge stone block dressed in stone cladding. Look out for Curlews, Redshank and Meadow Pippets which all nest in this area.

Scar House Reservoir’s dam was the largest in Britain when it was finished in 1936. Measuring 1,800 feet (549 metres) long and 170 feet (52 metres) high, the reservoir was constructed to supply Bradford’s booming mills, along with Angram Reservoir, which is a short distance up the River Nidd. These days, you will find the dam and reservoir to be an impressive spectacle nestled amidst stunning scenery.

Great scenery and impressive dam. The little café has limited opening times and is cash only. Also a nice place for a walk and apparently some good mountain biking around here.
