Nice to get a brew out of the harsh wind

The western path of Crummock Water is less busy than the gravel path on the eastern side of the lake. The path can get a little boggy but follows the water closely with beautiful views of the surrounding hills nd Buttermere.

Delicious food and drink but very busy in peak times.

Such a lovely mountain to hike. Whatever the weather. Obviously, better on sunny days.

Low Ling Crag is a rocky peninsular jutting out into Crummock Water.

This is a popular spot during the weekends especially when the Bluebells are in bloom. Arriving early or late in the afternoon/evening will give you a better chance to get it nearly to yourself. There is also limited parking along the roads. A great starting spot for small walks or to tick off Wainwright's in the area.

Burtness Wood covers the lower fells along much of the southwestern shore of Buttermere. The trail though the woodland runs close to the edge of the lake, it's well made and popular but still rocky in places. It's lots of fun to run! If the weather is good there are several nice swimming spots along this shore with little beaches to dry out on.

Skye Farm Tea Room is a popular place in a great location. They serve a nice selection of home cooked food as well as drinks, cake and snacks. Do try the homemade ice cream that's made with the prize-winning milk of their own Ayrshire cows. Skye farm also run the wonderful, basic campsite in Buttermere if you want to base yourself here and explore the wealth of running available.

Excellent pie and hot drinks in the winter and homemade ice cream in the summer, spot on for a post run stop! Open 9:00 - 17:00 every day.

Low Ling Crags is a small rocky promontory that sticks out into Crummock Water from the western shore. There are nice little beaches on each side and it's a good place for a rest or a dip. Swimrun events have been held here where contestants swam from this point across to Hause Point on the opposite bank before running Rannerdale.

A nice section of woodland at the western end of Crummock Water. This is owned and managed by the National Trust. Plenty of trails through the woods and along the lake shore.

A wonderful valley at any time of year with a great fun runnable trail up the middle. In April to May each year it's literally blue with bluebells, a stunning sight! Rannerdale Knot is a fun summit above Rannerdale and Crumock Water, if you run around to the summit you get a great view down into this valley.

Great food coffee and their own ice-cream. Many flavours. Pies sandwiches and soups also very good. Nice seating area inside as well as tables outside.

Excellent flat walk. Only one short tricky section over some rocks - probably because the water was high. Would have been no issue when water levels were lower.
