This spot offers fabulous views over Crummock Water. Stretching over 2.5 miles (4 km), this crystal-clear lake features a rocky bottom and is bordered by the steep fellsides adorned with Skiddaw slate.

A short ford river crossing. We were able to ride through only getting mildly wet feet. it should be avoided when there's been lots of rain or if you don't fancy getting soggy! A brilliant place for families to paddle and play in the summer.

Good car park, not too many spaces though. To pay for parking it's best to bring change, you can pay by phone but there is barely any signal.

Basic and reasonably price campsite. Good base for exploring the northern fells.

Thackthwaite is a very small Lake District village. It's a great place to start a walk of the Wainwright's Low Fell and Fellbarrow - not too steep.

Nice little local village shop, a good place to stop for a snack or supplies. Open Mon to Sat 10:00 - 17:00 closed Sundays.

Limited space in the car park - best to get there early in the busy season?
