From this vantage point on the R575, you have a stunning, unobstructed view of Ballydonegan Bay. Although you're only 22 meters above sea level, its location at the foot of the Miskish Mountains offers a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean and the nearby white-sand beach. It's a perfect photo opportunity, beautifully combining the rugged Irish coastline with the colorful rooftops of Allihies.

The Killaugh Wedge Tomb (often referred to as Killough East or West) is an impressive megalithic monument from the Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–2000 BC). This prehistoric tomb is located in a field directly adjacent to the road to the Dursey Island cable car, near the junction of the R572 and R575. The tomb consists of a distinctive wedge-shaped chamber with a massive capstone approximately 2.7 meters long, resting on large sidestones, and oriented southwest. Despite its partially collapsed condition, it is one of the most accessible examples of this type of tomb on the Beara Peninsula, accessible via a marked path with stiles.

This isn't really a lake, it's an arm of the Lauragh channel from the Kenmare River. The bridge creates the lake and allows access from Lauragh along the coast.

Originally a coaching inn dating back to the mid 18th century, today An Síbín is a delightful wine bar and cafe, with rooms for those exploring the Beara Peninsula. Situated at the foot of the Healy Pass, it's well located for the wider region and is a good place to stop during the Beara Way long-distance trail.

Allihies was once a bustling centre of copper mining during the Industrial Revolution, with over 1,600 people working here in its heyday. The museum here reveals more about this heritage, as well as displaying local artwork and the like. The cafe is also a great place to refuel.

Just a short hop from the historic copper mining village of Allihies, Ballydonegan Beach is a delight. Intriguingly, the beach is manmade, its golden sands the result of crushed quartz from the old copper mines. With Ballydonegan Bay making way for the Atlantic in one direction and the rugged Slieve Miskish Mountains in the other, it's a beautiful spot.
