The original Tau Cross in the Clare Heritage Centre in Corofin. The stone cross is located in the Clare Heritage & Genealogy Centre in Corofin. The cross, also known as the Tau Cross from Roughan Hill, was probably erected in the 12th century and served as a church boundary stone. The early monasticism of the Irish-Scottish Church used such boundary stones to mark the area of a monastery as a sanctuary. The cross was carved from a single piece of limestone, with two faces with hands between them carved into the top of the arms.
