Best visited in the afternoon to take advantage of the better sunshine. Be careful, however, as the cliff edge can be very dangerous on rainy or windy days. These black cliffs, composed of layers of sandstone and moss-covered slate where thousands of birds nest, are among Ireland's most spectacular natural sites. Their dizzying height (approximately 200 meters at the top, near the tower, and over 8 kilometers long) makes you feel so small that you forget the presence of other tourists, even though they are numerous.

Just south of the Poulnabrone Dolmen lies the Caherconnel Castle, dating from a completely different era, namely the Middle Ages (900-1500 AD). A massive structure, the centuries-long residence of a local royal family.

The Gleninsheen wedge tombs: One is hidden beside the road, the other, partially collapsed, lies about 100 meters northeast in a field (2300 to 2000 BC). In 1932, a local resident discovered the Gleninsheen collar (c. 800 to 700 BC) not far from the wedge tombs, hidden in one of the limestone tombs. It is now on display at the National Museum of Ireland (Kildare Street site) in Dublin. It was listed as number 12 on the semi-official list "A History of Ireland in 100 Objects." These tombs also have a wedge-shaped floor plan, oriented southwest toward the setting sun.

Admission was collected at the parking lot in June 2025. Nothing was checked during our visit. The entrance building was not in use.
