The Muckenthaler Teichpfanne is an impressive pond landscape known for its diverse flora and fauna. Hiking there, you can enjoy the tranquil nature, observe numerous birds, and experience the special atmosphere of the old carp ponds such as the Mondsee, the Riesslitzer Teich, and the Silbersee.

Presumably, this call barrier is a special feature. Unfortunately, I had no luck here. The quiet automatic answering machine, which I only heard after pressing the call button for the second time, informed me that opening was not possible due to a technical defect. Apparently, I wasn't the first to wait in vain for the barrier to open, because there is already a footpath next to the level crossing. I checked the situation and nimbly crossed the tracks. However, this isn't entirely safe, as the trains travel very fast there.

The Schwallohbach, 80 m above the Butterfass, flows into the Waldnaab in a hanging valley with a more or less visible waterfall, depending on the amount of water.

As it flows, the Waldnaab grinds away granite blocks lying in the riverbed. The anvil is particularly strongly undercut in two directions: one toward the oncoming water (windward, impact side) and—at first glance surprising—also on the opposite side (leeward), i.e., downstream. On the upstream side, the grinding is easily explained by drifting debris, gravel, and sand. On the leeward side, the circulating currents collide, creating eddies that similarly erode the granite.

A wonderful stop in the Waldnaab Valley. Despite the queasy feeling of sitting under the chamber wagon with its tons of granite, it is a lovely place to rest and look out over the Waldnaab Valley. Anvil, chamber wagon, butter churn - the Waldnaab Valley is always worth a trip. The numerous different hiking trails mean you can always reach your actual destination (log cabin) in a relaxed manner.
