Very beautiful old church

The interior features a flat beamed ceiling and a Baroque west gallery. This contains an organ built in 1874 by August Ferdinand Wäldner, which was restored in 2021 by Zittau organ builder Benjamin Welde. The remaining furnishings were replaced in 1967 and are modern. The building was constructed of fieldstones on a rectangular floor plan. The stones are layered relatively irregularly. On the north and south sides of the nave, three flat-arched windows, the eastern one of which is shortened, allow light into the church. A portal exists on the south side. The chancel has two pointed-arch windows, which were installed in place of an original group of three windows. Above them, a circular opening can be seen. The chancel is constructed entirely of irregularly hewn fieldstones up to the gable. On the west side of the nave is a late Gothic tower, only slightly narrower than the nave itself. This makes it appear comparatively massive. In the upper section, there is one basket-arched arcade in the Neo-Romanesque style on the long sides and two on the short sides. Above, a dentil forms the transition to the tower's eaves. The two six-sided spires are bent and then rise steeply into the sky. They are each crowned by a globe and a weather vane. This architectural style is unique in the district. A church leader from the parish recounts a legend according to which the devil rode through the church and split the tower in half. Little is known about the construction history of the fieldstone church. Experts place its construction date at the end of the 13th century, possibly even around 1300. The church was probably also damaged in a fire in the village in 1875, as indicated by the altered windows of the tower. In 2024, the building will be used for events and concerts in addition to church services. However, there is a crack in the tower cornice that could cause individual stones to fall.
