The Großer Schwielochsee with a total area of 13.3 square kilometers is the largest natural lake in Brandenburg and the starting point for water hikers and leisure captains. Clear water, clean air and rural idyll make the Schwielochsee and its surroundings attractive as a recreational area. Long walks in the forest around the lake or detours to the surrounding villages ensure rest and relaxation. There are several bathing spots, idyllic campsites, holiday apartments, boat rentals, recreational facilities and many opportunities for water sports enthusiasts and anglers right on the lake. The Schwielochsee was formed during the Ice Age. Boulders of various sizes can still be seen in its surroundings today, which bear witness to this way of origin. The shape and depth of the lake also indicate the Ice Age: the Schwielochsee is channel-shaped and, at around 14 meters from the lake floor to the water surface, is one of the deeper waters. The Schwielochsee is surrounded by a reed belt, which is home to many species of birds.
