A hundred years ago, the hillsides on the east bank of the Pätzer Hintersee were almost free of forest. A few junipers bear witness to the sparse heathland that once existed here. The lowlands with wet meadows are preserved with the support of landscape conservation. On the southern shore of the Pätzer Hintersee there are large moor areas that have been secured as a nature reserve. The path now leads north. An idiosyncratic pine forest with crooked trees is called Schweinewinkel. This is where the pigs used to be driven into the forest to the Waldwiede. Walking through the Pätz Hintersee settlement, you return to the starting point at the train station. Really very magical, we ate and drank wonderfully there. The range of wine is really good and the little treats are always tempting.

In 1775 the steak house building was first mentioned as the Royal Forester's House in Bestensee. It was built by Frederick the Great, King of Prussia, and served as the seat of his forester. Because it was a royal building, it had to stand out from other buildings. That is why the beams and clay surfaces were given color, because color was a symbol of wealth at that time. This building in Bestensee is in its entirety the oldest surviving forester's house in the state of Brandenburg. For many years it was left to decay. In 2008 the current owner, Mr. Uwe Budach, bought the property and lovingly renovated it. The old half-timbering, made of wood and clay, was restored down to the last detail.
