A towpath, sometimes also called a towpath, which runs alongside the river or canal bed, was an indispensable part of the transport infrastructure in the proverbial "good old days." Before ships could move by motor power, horses walked along the bank and pulled the boat against the current. This activity was called "treideln," and this is how the towpath got its name. As briefly mentioned at the beginning, in some areas the term "towpath" is more common for these paths, since the boat and horse were connected by a rope. Wherever these paths, located directly on the bank, have been preserved - regardless of their name - they are now popular with hikers and cyclists.

The church was completed in 1597 on behalf of Margarete von Hake, nee von der Schulenburg. Built next to Machnow Castle (later known as the "Alten Hakeburg", destroyed in 1943), the old village church in Kleinmachnow is one of the first Protestant church buildings in the Mark Brandenburg.

The purpose of this route was to provide transport links to the large cemeteries laid out outside the city around 1905. In 1913 the first steam train ran from Wannsee via Dreilinden to Stahnsdorf. For many "passengers" it was actually the last trip: the corpses were transported by train from the Halensee freight station, which had a "corpse clearance hall". In 1928, the conductor rail went into operation and an S-Bahn commuted every 20 minutes on the single-track line. With the construction of the Wall in 1961, traffic was stopped.
