Here you can see a remnant of the attempt to connect the Baltic Sea with the Saaler Bodden (among other places) in the 1960s. The originally calculated construction costs were quickly exceeded and the project was abandoned.

No matter which direction you approach Ribnitz from, St. Mary's Church, with its imposing tower, immediately draws the eye. Built around 1220-1230, it was originally a towerless hall church, a square, late Romanesque brick building. St. Mary's Church invites you to look up, and so we draw attention here to the round-arched frieze in the western part, which once encircled the church. The addition of two chapels on the north side is also still visible in the masonry. Transepts were built on both sides of the oldest, western part of the church; these were demolished in 1803/04. Three major town fires repeatedly destroyed the church. After the town fire of 1455, the church was extended to the east, and the chancel was added. The tower was also built after 1455 and was originally 100 meters high, covered in copper, and served as a navigational marker. The tower received its current roof shape in 1818/19. The dome and lantern date from 1841. The last major town fire of 1759 left only the church's foundations standing. Reconstruction began in 1766 and lasted until 1789, but the church was consecrated as early as 1769, and services, which had been held in the monastery church until then, could once again take place here. Numerous renovations—right up to the recent past—have ensured that the church has not only been preserved as a house of worship but also serves as a cultural venue. The Jehmlich organ, newly consecrated in 1994, was the prerequisite for the "Ribnitz Organ Summer" concert series, which is performed annually from mid-June to the end of August. Further musical highlights, including performances of the Christmas Oratorio, are part of the cultural program. Since 1998, the tower has also been open to the public again. From a height of approximately 45 meters, it offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area, stretching all the way to the Baltic Sea. However, 214 steps must be climbed first. The tower reaches a height of around 60 meters to the top of the cross. https://www.ribnitz-damgarten.m-vp.de/st-marien-kirche-ribnitz/

St. Mary's Church, with its imposing tower, is visible from afar and dominates the townscape. It is a brick building dating back to the 13th century. It was immediately rebuilt and furnished in the Baroque style (altar and pulpit). At the beginning of the 1980s, the church interior underwent further changes: a winter chapel was added, and the timber framing in the nave was exposed. The tower (49 meters high, 214 steps) is open to the public, and the viewing platform offers a beautiful view of the town of Ribnitz and its surroundings. On a clear day, the towers of Rostock can be seen with the naked eye. Organ concerts and exhibitions are held regularly during the summer months.

The fountain "Amber Fisherman with Family" is located in Ribnitz city center on the market square, at the foot of the town church of St. Marien. The fountain figures were created by the artist Thomas Jastram from Rostock.

A close connection to the important sculptor Jo Jastram gave rise to a shared desire to erect a large sculpture in the city of Ribnitz-Damgarten that would refer to the artist's work in the region and at the same time enrich the cityscape. In 2005, a good location was found here on the Ribnitz harbor promenade.
