The Greenway is a paved two-lane multi-use path, which stretches for over 50 miles along the LA River.

The Rio Hondo Bike Bridge is an interesting structure that connects the bike trails that runs on either side of the Rio Hondo.

Highly recommend cycling around LA. It's hard to believe, but the city is more bike-friendly than some cities in Germany. Riding in the footsteps of the Terminator along the LA River in particular is a lot of fun and there is also very little traffic :-)

Excellent paved dedicated bike trails along Rio Hondo, a safe car-free connection through the otherwise wall-to-wall urban landscape.

The section north-west of here is blessed with the paved Rio hondo bikeway on both sides of the river channel. One bridge at each end of the parallel section helps connect to the other side to continue riding along the river. To the south this is the East bank, to the North-East it is on the North-West bank of the river. If you pass the bridge into the dead-end section you will notice it thanks to the homeless encampment getting denser and eventually closing off the trail ...

While the route along the PCH is mostly an unprotected dangerous adventure along one of the busiest roads, mostly without bike lanes and shoulders, here it crosses the Los Angeles River Greenway, one of the best routes in the entire valley to bike safely without traffic on a dedicated trail from the hills, through busy downtown and residential sprawl, to the ocean. The Greenway runs on the levee, mostly on the east bank. While the river is mostly a concrete canal, there are a few sections where it passes by parks or private plant nurseries, adding a few touches of green in this huge metropolitan area that otherwise has few long, dedicated bike routes.

The Los Angeles River is one of the best routes in the entire valley to bike safely without traffic on a dedicated trail from the downtown area to the ocean. The trail runs on the levee, mostly on the east bank. While the river is mostly a concrete canal, this southern section is usually filled entirely with water and offers some bird watching opportunities.
