The church is a neo-Gothic single-nave church building from 1877

John, the desert preacher who lived on locusts and wild honey, could neither read nor write. Why does he hold up a holy scripture? Certainly, he didn't want to discuss texts, but rather to move people to a different way of life. His call was: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." His disciple Jesus didn't want to discuss even a single iota of the ancient texts, but simply to turn people's hearts to brotherhood. It's a pity that both were recaptured by literalism. But that's what the priesthood thrives on.

Artist: Georg Vogt (Lindlar). Material: stainless steel. Erected in 1990. Almost bodyless, the heart hidden behind a book, one hand already in heaven. It's not facing the human being—it's twisted. Is that supposed to be John the Baptist? I think of it as a caricature of a Bergisch revivalist preacher, of which there were many. It seems intimidating in front of the church entrance. Do they have too many visitors?

The Bergischer Streifzug 2 hiking trail leads directly around the Wuppervorsperre, always with a view of the water. The path is wide and easy to walk, even in winter.
