The Hansa colliery impresses with its well-preserved architecture in the Neues Bauen style and offers fascinating insights into the history of coal mining. The site is freely accessible and is ideal for a short exploration or as a stopover on a hike through western Dortmund. Combine your visit with a detour to the neighboring Hansa coking plant or the Deusenberg spoil heap.

A worthwhile destination that exemplifies the structural change in the Ruhr region. However, it gets quite crowded on weekends.

The Phoenix is a truly successful redevelopment of the old steel site into a quasi-recreational area and has been very well received by local residents.

You should also take a detour through the Brandheide – a beautiful little forest. Perhaps head to Suderwich to the Old Watermill, which is still open – it's worth it.
