Of course, this assumed that many city residents owned ponds and raised carp. Fishing from the ponds began in October - the so-called carp harvest. This meant that the fishing trips were heatedly discussed and celebrated among the pond owners and their acquaintances. One day, during a Sunday morning pint in the Löwenkeller with good Zeulenroda beer, there was a big discussion about the results of the fishing. Everyone had the biggest and most beautiful mirror carp and the highest growth this year. The longer the regulars' table lasted and the more beer was enjoyed, the greater the results of the fish harvest became and everyone wanted to shine the most. Until the Meier, Wilhelm, who liked to slice cold meat and always wanted to be the "biggest" in the regulars' table, told his friends at the regulars' table that he could teach his carp to whistle. Of course, there was a big hello at the regulars' table and, after careful discussion, a bet was made. Well, the next day Wilhelm felt a bit strange, but being the rascal that he was, he thought, "I'll think of something by next Sunday." The next Sunday the regulars' table met at Wilhelm's apartment because he was supposed to demonstrate his whistling carp. In his distress he came up with the following. He had put a carp in a bird cage - he himself sat at the table and whistled something to the carp. When all his buddies were gathered in the living room, he explained: "Look up in the bird cage is my carp, you can see how he points his mouth to whistle, I've already taught him that and now I'm teaching him to whistle and be able to do that You'll hear from me next week." Of course, Wilhelm knew that the carp takes oxygen from the water through its gills and is now gasping for “air” outside of its element, thereby shaping its mouth as if it were whistling.
