Lots of cobblestones and just great to ride up there.

The Tremolastrasse is the longest road construction monument in Switzerland. It winds its way up from Airolo to the Gotthard Pass as a bright ribbon. You can enjoy an impressive view of it on the mule track from the pass into the upper Leventina. The world-famous serpentine road, laid out on the left slope of the Val Tremola, was created with the construction of the Gotthard Pass road. In the most spectacular section, the road overcomes 300 meters in altitude over a length of four kilometers in 24 bends, which even have their own names. The pass road between Göschenen and Airolo was built between 1827 and 1832 according to plans by the Ticino engineer Francesco Meschini, after the access roads from Basel and Chiasso had been continuously expanded since the 1810s. The Tremolastrasse is now largely in the state of the reconstruction that was completed in 1951. The six to seven metre wide road is bordered and supported by walls up to eight metres high. Some of the old dry stone walls are still there. The granite paving has largely been preserved, as have the kilometre markers. The two road maintenance houses have disappeared. The first stood at the beginning of the Tremolastrasse until it was destroyed in 1989. The second was further up, below Voltone. Destroyed by an avalanche in 1874, it was not rebuilt in 1882 because of the imminent opening of the Gotthard railway.
