This is a modest open wilderness hut that is open year-round. Here you will find an overnight place for independent hikers. You can stay in wilderness huts for one or two nights without a reservation. Be prepared for the possibility that there may not be enough space to sleep in the hut. The hut sleeps six and is heated with a stove. There is a gas stove for cooking. You can take water from the spring, do remember to purify it. Remember to pack out your own waste and bring your own cooking utensils!

The peak of Lumikero (elevation 662 meters), which is passed along the Hetta–Pallas hiking trail. This hike can also be done as a day trip starting from the Vuontisjärvi parking lot.

The sandy beach of Lake Hietajärvi is a scenic stop with a fireplace (Laavu). Also a wonderful spot for swimming. It’s just a three-kilometer walk from the closest parking area. This location is ideal for day trips or as a resting point when heading further into the national park. Camping is permitted here, making it a great place to stay overnight.

Be prepared, the winds are usually strong here. The views of the impressive Arctic fells are worth it, however!
