Lake Spullersee stores water from the surrounding mountains to generate electricity in two hydroelectric power plants, the Braz power plant and the Spullersee power plant. This reservoir and the power plants are operated by the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), so the electricity is used for the railways. According to the ÖBB, the frequency of the generated traction current is 16.7 Hz, while the grid frequency in Austria and Europe is 50 Hz. Lake Spullersee also serves as a flood protection facility.

A really great and well-maintained facility

There are a lot of marmots here. You can find caves everywhere. The marmots are relatively trusting and easy to observe.

The lake is maéga beautiful. From the car park directly over the dam and following the path, you come to what I think is the most beautiful place with the most beautiful view

Here you have a great panoramic view. Below the cross there is a bench that invites you to linger and enjoy the view.

The path around Lake Spullersee is very beautiful and not particularly demanding. From every spot you have a great view of the lake and the surrounding mountain landscape.
