The Tappenkarseehütte is located just above the lake of the same name and is an ÖAV hut. In summer, it's a popular destination, including for overnight stays. We even managed to get a spot in the camp at short notice, but it was completely full. Because it was so crowded, everything felt a bit like a mass processing operation. Unfortunately, we didn't get the famous Kaiserschmarrn in the evening either; it's only available during the day. There are few vegetarian options, and no (posted) mountaineering food.

Sure-footedness and a head for heights are required. Many edelweiss flowers are found along the trail.

A cool swim on hot summer days. Better than any infinity pool.

Well-attended, self-service Alm

In general, it is recommended to take the ascent to the Tappenkarsee as early as possible! We were at the Schwabalm at 07:00! The barrier to the passage was probably already open around 06:00 today ... but it depends on the hunter!

Very steep road with tight switchbacks and loose, coarse gravel. I've never ridden such a challenging and steep road all the way up in one go, and for the first time, I had to use the highest level of assistance!
