The view of the lakes, from the ridge, is incredible so be sure to allow plenty of time for breaks. It's a demanding hike so you definitely need to be sure-footed. If you hike the entire ridge, hopefully you'll find a place to stay overnight in Mermurubu.

Unfortunately, I have a fear of heights, and this section was quite challenging for me in places. But it was doable. You definitely need sure footing and must concentrate solely on the rock. Dogs sometimes have to be carried. We saw someone turn back on the hike with a large dog. Hopefully, you'll catch the last ferry or find a place to stay in Mermurubu. The views, even up to the ridge, are simply wonderful.

At the end of the valley begins the strenuous but recommendable climb to the summit of Surtningssue mountain.

A beautiful, spacious, and comfortable cabin. The cabin can be reached either by boat or via the hiking trail that runs north of Lake Gjende from the eastern to the western end of the lake. From the cabin, you can take a day hike to the summit of Surtningssue Mountain.

The accommodation is close to the boat dock; a crossroads for a day trip into the valley (easy). You can take the boat there and back, or, like many others, start your tour over the Besseggen Ridge (see there).

A recommended stopover for a hut-hopping tour through Jotunheimen National Park. Several other huts are easily accessible within a day's hike.

With a trekking backpack, the descent section should not be underestimated. You'll have to backclimb over rocks several times, or abseil down. Steel ropes are available wherever necessary. However, with a good level of fitness, this is no problem.

At 5,718 feet (1,743 m), Veslfjellet is the highest point on the famous Besseggen Ridge. In contrast to some of the narrower sections on the route, the summit is relatively broad but the views are still spectacular.
