The area is very solitary, featuring a peaceful and picturesque pond that was dug during the depression era to serve as a fire pond. While exploring, be vigilant for bears and other wildlife that may be present in the vicinity.

The Frederick Municipal Forest is composed of a thick network of well-maintained trails: it is a truly a gem. It is also the perfect habitat for 22 threatened and endangered species.

Three Saws is one of the best downhill trails in the area. It can be included in longer loops with other trails located in the north and south of Frederick Watershed, or can be the highlight of a downhill-focused day when combined with the Fun House, Boundary Line, and Lawnmower trails.

The viewpoint is located a few feet east of Salamander Trail.

Once here, you'll encounter sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. Take a moment to marvel at the rock formations that gave this place with its name.

The recreational fulcrum of Greenbrier State Park is beautiful Greenbrier Lake. This is a 42-acre man-made lake with glorious white sandy beaches and abundant swimming areas that gradually reach out to the lake to a depth of no more than six feet. Fishing for trout, bass, or bluegill is permitted on the lake with a state-issued license required for those 16 years or older.

Greenbrier State Park is nestled in the picturesque Catoctin Mountains of Maryland. It offers a pristine lake, lush forests, and scenic hiking/running trails, and a range of outdoor activities from swimming and fishing to picnicking and camping.

Salamander Rock is located right on the northwestern boundary of the Frederick City Watershed. Near Salamander Rock are ruins of an old fire tower, built in an effort to address the destructive nature of local wildfires.
