Custer is in the heart of the Black Hills. The Mount Coolidge Lookout and Fire Tower was constructed in the 1930s and is located at the top of a 6,000 ft peak. It is the highest point in Custer State Park. It offers 360 degree views of Custer state park. On a clear day, you can see the Badlands nearly 60 miles away in the east.
