Nice campground just off the Blue Ridge Pkwy. There is a huge meadow for tents. The nearby and charming town of Floyd has everything you might need for supplies and refreshments.

The greenway is an easily accessible multi-use trail that runs along the Roanoke River. There are multiple points of access and a number of nice parks along its route. It can get busy with cyclists, walkers, and runners though so be aware of your fellow trail users.

The history of the railway is present in many corners of the city. If you come to visit, don't hesitate to see one of the many interesting museums (the science museum, the planetarium, the transport museum...). And of course, enjoy the wide range of bars and restaurants where you can eat properly.

Roanoke's City Market is the oldest continuously operating markets in Virginia, getting its start in 1882. In addition to the excellent food on offer the surrounding historic district is home to other attractions such as the Roanoke Pinball Museum.

The historic Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center was first built in 1882. Since then it has been rebuilt, expanded, and updated multiple times. Its distinctive Tudor Revival style has made it a landmark of Roanoke.

There are a few foot-traffic only trails on the property, but the Smart View Recreation Area also offers multiple picnic areas (over 70), a historical cabin, and a paved road loop where cars are also allowed to drive. If you want to get on any of the trails, too, know that you'll have to lock the bikes up.

Located at Milepost 110.6 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Stewarts Knob Overlook offers a view of the city of Roanoke. The view is not the most picturesque on the parkway, but it does have ample parking and a bench. The view of the city is really the best one you'll get of Roanoke while on the parkway.
