The Stevenson Bridge was built in 1923 over Putah Creek, is one of only three remaining reinforced concrete “through tied arch” bridges in California. Now is it covered in graffiti, and it is a popular destination for visitors to the area.

The Fischer-Hanlon House preserves one of the few examples of heavy timber frame construction with mortise and tenon joints used prior to the advent of balloon framing in California in the mid-19th century. The building was possibly used as a hotel during the Gold Rush period. It was purchased by Joseph Fischer, a Benicia businessman who moved the building to its present site and converted it into a residence. Fischer had migrated from Switzerland to New York in 1845. In 1849 he moved to California. A lucrative butcher business sponsored his remaining in Benicia, rather than attempting to mine. At that time, and for twenty years thereafter, Benicia was a city to be reckoned with. In 1853-54, it was the capital of California. The State House was adjacent to the Fischer property. Once known as the Athens of the West, Benicia declined following removal of the capital to Sacramento and removal of the county seat to Fairfield. Three generations of the Fischer family lived here. Joseph Fischer and his wife left their home to their three children, Martha Fischer Quinn, Joseph Fischer and Elizabeth Fischer Hanlon. Martha and Joseph resided in the house until their death, whereupon Elizabeth Hanlon's three daughters inherited it.

The Benicia-Martinez Bridge Trail offers a unique ride across the Carquinez Strait with dedicated bike and pedestrian lanes. It’s a smooth, paved path with great views of the water and passing ships. A solid link between Benicia and Martinez, especially if you’re piecing together a longer Bay Area loop.

Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve is beautiful. Nestled in a steep, north-facing canyon of the northern Coast Range, it showcases a range of undisturbed habitats with year-round springs providing crucial watering areas for a wide variety of wildlife, including deer, mountain lion and bear. Dogs are not allowed in the reserve, so you'll need to leave your pup home to enjoy exploring this stunning area.

This well-maintained small park offers plenty of parking, picnic tables and paved walkways. It offers scenic views of the two I-680 bridge spans, the train trestle, Mount Diablo, and the Mothball Fleet (National Defense Reserve Fleet). It is a fantastic vantage point with plenty of parking. It is an ideal location to begin and end a great hike across the bridge or connect with the Bay Area Ridge Trail for endless options to explore this incredible area.
