Laguna Summit is a prominent mountain pass along Sunrise Highway (State Route 79). As one of the highest points along this scenic route, it offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Anza-Borrego Desert to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve spans 979 acres and includes a lagoon formed by the convergence of Escondido and La Orilla Creeks with the Pacific Ocean. It's a favorite spot for hikers and runners, offering scenic views throughout and plenty of opportunities for wildlife sightings.

The Coastal Rail Trail runs parallel to train tracks, but this parkway was finished in November 2005. It is 0.7 miles long in the heart of Carlsbad Village. The length is paved and flat, so skateboarders, cyclists, and hikers have an easy trail to move on.

A fantastic, good quality bike path with plenty of nature to take in whilst you cycle along it. A great alternative to cycling on the surrounding roads.
