Along the trail through the Kärkevagge valley, this striking rock formation resembles the profile of a sphinx watching over the landscape.

Easily accessible via beautiful trails - be careful, it's slippery! The walk is definitely worth it! And please: plan your time! This isn't a hike you can start an hour before sunset - the terrain isn't a well-paved hiking trail!

A recommended campsite is located about 400-500 meters past the Katterjaurestugan, with a pebble beach and a stream beside it. The sunset with a view over the lake is beautiful.

Katterjaurestugan is private, you cannot stay there.

A very impressing view in „The Stone Valley“ with its anyway interesting geological phenomena: a huge field of large boulders in dark greyish to almost black color. Almost like on the moon 🌙

Turquoise lake also known as Rissajaure. It is considered to be the clearest lake in Sweden. Ice free for only 3 months in summer.

In the winter of 1898/1899 construction of the so-called "The Big Lift" began. In June 1899, goods could be transported to the lower-lying region to Björnfjell for the first time. So the almost five kilometer detour over the mountains could be avoided. When the railway line was completed, 10,000 tons of goods had already been transported over it.
