Beautiful views overlooking Hot Springs and the French Broad River.

Hickey Fork Falls are located in the Shelton Laurel Backcountry Area, which is a more primitive hiking area. The trails here are tough to navigate if you haven't spent time in the mountains before. The falls, themselves, are beautiful and just off of the (often overgrown) trail.

Viking Mountain is an easily accessible summit on the border of Pisgah and Cherokee National Forests. The summit technically sits in Tennessee, though the state of North Carolina is only a hundred feet away. It's elevation of 4,500 feet is close to that of its neighbors Camp Creek Bald and Little Bald Mountain.

The Flint Mountain Shelter is conveniently located next to several water sources. There is also a picnic area and bear cables at this shelter area.

The Blackstack Cliffs are on a small spur trail off the side of the Appalachian Trail. The cliffs overlook the hills and mountains of east Tennessee and Cherokee National Forest.

Lover's Leap is a well known lookout in the Hot Springs area. The rocky outcrop looks out on the French Broad River and the town of Hot Springs. There is a short loop that conquers the lookout area, or you can journey further on the Appalachian Trail.

The Roaring Fork Shelter on the Appalachian Trail is utilized by thru hikers, backpackers, and day hikers. This shelter has a sleeping area, but please follow LNT principles if choosing to have a snack near the sleeping quarters.

Take a picnic, a camera, or even just a blanket and enjoy some of the most spectacular views of the Blue Ridge and Bald Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. Check the weather, as this is one of the higher peaks in the area and can be prone to spring and summer showers. Bring the pup and kids if you like, but keep in mind this is a frequented area that sees plenty of visitors.
