THE TELEBORG WATER TOWER, located south of Teleborg in the city of Växjö, has an interesting acoustic property. When you stand under the center of the dome-shaped reservoir, all of the sound will bounce right back at you. Even small noises are amplified strangely as echoes build up. The reservoir, which holds 45,000 cubic meters of water, was built in 1974. The acoustic effects were not a planned part of the design, but a stroke of luck that was discovered later. For a long time, the Echo Tower was a secret attraction known only to locals, but word of mouth made it known. It is now visited by thousands of tourists every year. Visitors are encouraged to bring a flute, kazoo, or other instrument that makes an interesting sound. The water tower is located south of Växjö on the outskirts of Teleborg and the easiest way to get there is to follow Teleborgsvägen southwards until you have passed the Raskens väg junction. The tower will be visible on the left side of the street. The water tower is accessible by public bus number 5, which runs at least twice an hour.
