Lake Vassivière was created in 1950 to cover the energy needs of France. The dam is almost 33 meters high and 25 meters thick at its base, only 3 meters at the top.
During a mountain bike ride in the middle of the Limousin hills, it is pleasant to stop on the banks of this imposing dam lake to admire its calm waters.
Small beach of Nergout, on Lake Vassivière. Supervised swimming and small snack restaurant nearby. A little further, a picnic area and the port of Nergout.
Artwork by British artist Andy Goldsworthy. The wall, in the shape of a spiral, is built half on the shore and half in the lake, on the island of Vassivière.
