Good going in the dry, not bad in the wet, experienced this track the day before storm Eunice hit in March 2022, wet and winder but surface we fantastic. Part of an old disused railway that is slowly being brought back into use, some sections of the cycle path were closed due to works being carried out on restoring the old line so be aware if you plan to use this route. https://swindon-cricklade-railway.org

Easily manageable on any bike (when dry). There's a few rougher patches, but on the whole it's no worse than many roads and a lot less stressful than the main road that runs alongside it.

This mixed use path, part of Sustrans NCN Route 482, follows the disused Chiseldon & Marlborough Railway. The path is almost entirely well-maintained gravel and mostly flat, with some sharp ups and downs at entry/exit points. When dry, it can be easily ridden on a road or city bike (some skills required), but if muddy and wet a Gravel bike or MTB is recommended. Traction is overall very good, but be careful on bends with loose gravel. On a nice, sunny day this is a great trail away from traffic which will put a smile on your face! Always be courteous to other path users, giving ample room to pedestrians and other cyclists.

Route on a section of old railway line - lovely, leafy and level! This was originally part of the Midland and South Western Junction Railway, eventually absorbed into the Great Western, running between Swindon and Cirencester and on to Cheltenham. Great mostly smooth route with benches along the way to stop for a break. Suitable for road and mountain bikes.

Solid Surface, I went down on a very wet day, and parts were a little sketchy on skinny tyres. Certainly good traffic free route though especially on 30c + tyres

I joined at South Cerney and headed south. This was on a road bike (with 28mm GP4S) in March and it was fine, though there are a few rough spots and a fun slalom course around some big puddles at one point.

Quiet shared use cycle lane that runs parallel to the main A-road. Reasonable surface - the typical fine grit type stuff, but should be suitable for most bikes.

Gravel route. Popular with other riders/walkers etc.

Great trail for mountain biking and gravel riding (in dry conditions) that cuts through the Chilterns and South of England.

This Grade I-listed church has Anglo-Saxon origins but most of the current structure was built around 1205. Mostly unchanged since the medieval era, it is now a redundant church in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Lovingly restored by William Morris, the 19th century poet and craftsman who lived in nearby Kelmscott, the inside of the church tells the story of over 1,000 years of religious history; from Anglo-Saxon carvings on one wall, to medieval wall paintings on another, to passages from the Bible etched elsewhere from the Reformation.

A comfortable and useful cycleway that connects Marlborough to Swindon for the most. Despite to the gravel makeup, the surface is so smooth that it's a pleasure to ride even a 23mm tire sized road bike.

I ride this route from Swindon to Didcot and back at least twice a week going to and from work and love it, there are many byways off the ridgeway worth exploring, stunning scenery and wildlife

This Ridgeway segment from Swindon to Goring on Thames includes miles of chalk trails, with some historic ruins beside the trail. I rode this one way; parked my car in Goring and caught the train with my bike from Goring to Swindon. Short road section through Swindon before climbing up to join the Ridgeway trail.
