This place, marked by the Lag da Pigniu and its impressive waterfall, announces the beginning of the Panixertal, a side valley of the Anterior Rhine. A wonder of nature that can serve as a hiking destination.

A different colour every day

The dam wall of the Lag da Pigniu - or Panixersee - is 270 meters long and was built between 1980 and 1990. In 1999, the artist Martin Valär from the Engadin used the large concrete surface as a canvas. He painted a painting on the wall that was almost 200 meters long and around 30 meters high. The subject: the crossing of the Panixer Pass by the Russian army in October 1799. Unfortunately, the weather has taken its toll on the paint, so that the painting has now faded considerably.

Trail around the lake to enjoy

At the back of the reservoir there are two large waterfalls, you can walk up to the left one

Please note the driving ban on the other side - grazing animals (and not worth it anyway).

The picturesque Lag da Breil (German: Brigelsersee) with its turquoise-blue color is not far from the village center of Brigels. You shouldn't swim in the mountain lake. To cool off on warm summer days, there is the Brigels bathing lake nearby.
