We are in one of the richest peat bogs in Ticino, at 972 meters above sea level. Here, even four carnivorous plants thrive, trapping tiny insects to compensate for the lack of mineral salts in the extremely acidic environment of the peat bog. At these altitudes, peat bogs are characterized by a particularly extreme and biodiverse habitat. Peat bogs, ponds, carnivorous plants, and roches moutonnées bear witness to the former tongue of the Ticino glacier during the last Ice Age. A thick ice sheet covered the region, reaching a height of 1200 meters. Numerous erratic boulders, various stones from the Sopraceneri area, and polished pebbles left behind by the glacier can be observed. Even in the depths of winter, thousands of glacier fleas can still be seen on the snow, a precious relic from the past. On the Alpe di Davrosio, situated at an altitude of 1200 m and accessible via a roughly one-kilometer-long path heading northwest, the stones are no longer polished but have crumbled due to weathering. These gneisses and mica schists are among the oldest rocks in Switzerland.

We only did the first section, from top to bottom. It cost 2 francs for an adult. But it's a beautiful experience and you can see the lake glistening in the sun. After the first section you have to cross the road and continue up to Monte Brè.

From this point you can take the path in the woods to get to Bre. It is worth it instead of the asphalt road

An ancient rural village typical of Ticino, Brè also offers the opportunity to admire the creations of established artists, known nationally and internationally, along a route that starts from the square in front of the church. From the village you can also enjoy a splendid view of Lake Lugano and Monte Brè.
