As rail travel became increasing popular in the mid nineteenth century, it was deemed necessary for a rail link across the Menai Strait for the convenience of MPs travelling to and from Ireland. The possibility of adding a rail line across the Menai Suspension Bridge was investigated, but found to be inappropriate. Therefore a second bridge across the Menai Strait was commissioned.

Malltraeth Cob Malltraeth is the next village along from Newborough to the north. The two villages are linked by a “cob” – a dike wall – with a footpath/cycle track along its top. The cob was completed in the early 19th Century, under the direction of Thomas Telford and John Rennie. At the same time, the Afon Cefni was straightened (and straitened) creating what looks like a canal, but is still tidal. This created nearly 1,600ha of grazing land on either side of the Cefni. Much of this land is now a nature reserve managed by the RSPB. Also you will see Llyn Parc Mawr Community Woodland where they have picnic areas where you can enjoyed the red squirrels. It is off road but I used my gatorskins and it was fine.

The old suspension bridge is definitely the more scenic way to enter Anglesey than the main bridge that carries the A55.

Nice cycle path along the embankment gives a great view of Malltraeth Sands as a more pleasant alternative to the A4080.

8월 18, 2024, Lon Las Cefni Cycle Path Along Afon Cefni
The path is fairly easy to miss if you’re coming along the A5: look for the section of railing by the roadside which marks the entrance. The path itself has some awkward narrow turns where it passes under the A55 but after that it’s wide, smooth and usually clear.

7월 22, 2024, Segontium Roman Fort
Segontium Romon Fort is an impressive excavated fortification located just outside Caernarfon. It was founded by Agricola in AD77, and it was garrisoned for over three hundred years. It was the longest-held Roman fort in Wales and used to hold a 'cohors milliaria,' a regiment of about 1,000 auxiliary infantry, mainly recruited from Belgium and Germany. It was linked by Roman roads to the main legionary bases at Chester and Caerleon by a series of marching camps and other forts.

6월 25, 2024, Caernarfon Castle
These echoed imperial Roman architecture, especially the walls of Constantinople. They also recalled the Welsh myth of Macsen Wledig, who dreamed of a great fort at the mouth of a river – ‘the fairest that man ever saw’. So Caernarfon is a castle of dreams. A legend brought to life. Even after 700 years it still stirs the imagination like no other Welsh castle.

6월 25, 2024, Caernarfon Castle
Castell Caernarfon is recognised around the world as one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages. This fortress-palace on the banks of the River Seiont is grouped with Edward I’s other castles at Conwy, Beaumaris and Harlech as a World Heritage Site. But for sheer scale and architectural drama Caernarfon stands alone. Here Edward and his military architect Master James of St George erected a castle, town walls and a quay all at the same time. This gigantic building project eventually took 47 years and cost a staggering £25,000. The castle was born out of bitter war with Welsh princes. So of course its immense curtain walls and daunting King’s Gate were designed to withstand assault. But the polygonal towers, eagle statues and multi-coloured masonry sent a more subtle message.

Anglesey is an island in Wales, off the mainland's northwest coast. It's known for its beaches and ancient sites. The island is accessed by the 19th-century Menai Suspension Bridge and the Britannia Bridge, rebuilt in the 20th century. In the medieval town of Beaumaris, 13th-century Beaumaris Castle has concentric fortifications and a moat. Beaumaris Gaol has Victorian punishment cells and an original tread wheel.

This location was first used for aviation during the First World War when the Royal Naval Air Service opened an airship base here named Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Anglesey (also known as RNAS Bodffordd, RNAS Gwalchmai and RNAS Llangefni). RNAS Anglesey was commissioned on 26 September 1915, when it was operated by 14 Group RNAS, operating SS18, an SS class airship, which was later joined by airships SS22, SS24 and SS25. The station had in a large airship hangar, 120 by 318 feet (37 m × 97 m) long, workshops, hydrogen gas production sheds and accommodation huts. The airships, which could drop bombs, escorted ships and patrolled for enemy submarines in the central section of the Irish Sea between Bardsey Island, Dublin, the Isle of Man and Morecambe Bay. This area includes the approaches to the Port of Liverpool, then one of the busiest ports in the world.
