Lovely place to cycle to! Salty Dog Cafe at the end of the harbour was a nice place to grab tea and an ice cream. There are also public loos in Elie, and if you get stuck (my knee was getting really sore) then you can get the x60 bus to Leven (£6), and put your bike in the storage underneath the bus.

What is more English than wellies and gardening. Then you can combine them into a real English garden.

Here on the Fife Coastal Path, just on the outskirts of the charming fishing village of Pittenweem, you have gorgeous coastal views south with distant views of the Isle of May. The coastal walking around this part of Fife is super nice. I hope you get the chance to go to Pittenweem itself to visit the village and harbour too. Scotland is very much noted for its mountains, but its coastal scenery comes in a very close second.

The windmill is easy to spot high above the costal path. It once was used when salt pans below were used to produce... salt.

Along the costal path, this castle is hard to miss. Unfortunately it has been fenced off due to its condition, but it still well viewed from the path.

A Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) located between Shell Bay and Largo Bay, near to the Shell Bay Holiday Park. Featuring beach head saltmarsh with plants such as greater sea-spurrey Spergularia media, sea plantain Plantago maritima, glasswort Salicornia europaea and sea arrowgrass Triglochin maritimum; and calcareous sand dunes supporting herb-rich dune pasture of a type not found elsewhere in Fife.

This is a beautiful part of the walk overlooking a small bay with a bench to enjoy the view.

Great to swim in all weather, in my opinion. Best at mid-low tide.

Kilconquhar Loch is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and is located beside the village of Kilconquhar in the east of Fife, within a mile to the north of the coastal village of Elie

Two small shops here and there are a couple of cafes, the diving gannet & the East Neuk smokehouse at the harbour.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, salt was a vital commodity to the communities along this coastline. During that time, St Monans was used to pump seawater into pans. Once the pans were full, the coal was fired and the heat evaporated off the water to leave the salt behind. To produce one ton of salt took almost 32 tons of seawater. These days, the mill is a fascinating relic to days-gone-by and affords spectacular views across the Firth of Forth.

A castle has existed on this site since the 13th century. However, the remains that you see today date to around the 15th century. Whilst there is not much left of Newark Castle these days, they are an interesting place to explore and you are afforded wonderful views out to sea from the atmospheric ruins.

Dumbarnie Links is an increasingly rare lime-rich dune grassland that provides a habitat for nearly 2,000 species, including 1,200 insects and a wide variety of birds. Many rare wildflowers grow on the nature reserve during the spring and summer months, too.
