As said in a previous post, there are section of this route that are stunning as it runs along the ridges of various valleys on it's way to Winchester and beyond on the section I did from Canterbury to Guildford many parts were incredibly muddy and very hard to traverse even on a gravel bike.

The Dirty habbit at the foot of the climb provides refreshing hill accompaniments

One of my favourite climbs in the area (alongside Coldblow Land further west). From corner of Pilgrims Way it is 1km to the top. Becomes prgressivley steeper, the final ramp is around 20% gradient.

Brutal, brutal climb. Took the life out of me once you're 20%+. To make things worse, if you're wanting to stop, its difficult to do so as cars are coming up and down the road. I didn't stop but this isn't for the weak. However, it's largely 5-7 miles of descending afterwards and the climb is only extremely difficult for a short period.

Saint JOHN BAPTIST, to whom this church in Doddington is dedicated, is a person on the threshold of the Old and New Testaments (just like the Holy Family with Mary and Joseph). His parents are Zacharias and Elizabeth. After the announcement of the Incarnation of God through them, the Mother of God visits her relative Elizabeth, who will give birth to a son in old age, namely John the Baptist. He is half a year older than Jesus and is considered his forerunner/pioneer. He lives in the desert, preaches repentance from sin to the Jewish population and baptizes them in the Jordan. Jesus also comes there to be baptized, and is filled with the Holy Spirit who descends upon him from heaven. The feast day of Saint John Baptist in the calendar of saints is June 24th, exactly half a year before 'Christmas Eve'.

It is not so common for a Christian place of worship – which encompasses the whole of heaven – to be dedicated to “ALL SAINTS”. Usually it is one (or occasionally two) named saints who hold the patronage of a church – and thus usually also of the parish or town in which it is located.
