According to popular legends, Sauris owes its foundation to two German soldiers who chose to stop here to escape the war (13th-15th century). Sauris in Friulian, Zahre in the local Germanic dialect is a municipality of 394 inhabitants: a German-speaking linguistic island, it is part of the club of authentic villages of Italy and the Committee of the historical Germanic linguistic islands in Italy. Thanks also to its geographical isolation that has allowed it to remain partly what it once was, today Sauris is a magical place.
