Between the Adriatic Sea and Lake delle Nazioni, south of the mouth of the Po, extends a narrow dune several kilometers long which acts as a natural dam.

The fallow deer is an artiodactyl mammal of the Cervidae family. Originally distributed in Europe and Asia, it became extinct in the old continent with the last glacial period. Since then numerous reintroductions were carried out by the Phoenicians, Romans and Normans, bringing the fallow deer back to almost all of Europe including the islands.

Myrmeleontids, generally known as antlions, are a family of insects famous for sand traps. It is a cone of sand at the bottom of which the antlion is placed which, by moving the sand, makes the ants fall into it, capturing the ant. 🐜
