After Rain, in winter, muddy and slippery under foot. At least 45+mm tyres. I guess, this is a fantastic trail in summer.

just before the bridge, pop down to the units and you'll find an old mill converted in to a greenhouse, and a few units selling the wares and a cafe

Upper Woodford is a pretty village in the charming Woodford Valley. The Sarsen Way long-distance trail passes through the village, while the Monarch's Way skirts it to the south. Walkers are welcome in the local pub, the Bridge Inn, which serves traditional pub grub, has outdoor seating in its riverside garden and has a wood-burner for those chillier afternoons and evenings.

Great spot to stop for a breather or grab some refreshments before hitting the rest of the trial. food is great, reasonable prices and big beer garden. What's not to love?

This off-road route is a safer alternative to the main road, but it's very overgrown in places.

Great feed stop for the King Alfreds way route

This fun section of trail is narrow and technical in places with rocks and roots. In summer, you can expect to earn a fair few nettle stings as you ride but nothing too major. This path leads onto some wonderful gravel tracks that take you all the way to Old Sarum prehistoric hill fort.

Amesbury is a small town close to Stonehenge and is the perfect base for exploring the Neolithic monument. Within the town, you find a good choice of accommodation, places to eat and drink, shops, historic buildings and other attractions.

Queensberry Bridge is a stunning stone span crossing the River Avon on the outskirts of Amesbury. It's a Grade II-listed structure and was built in 1775 with limestone ashlar and elm planks. It's used as a road bridge and has a neighbouring footbridge for pedestrians which offers an unbeatable view of the stone span. From either bridge you can admire the river, the weeping willows and the vibrant green surroundings.

A worthy stop off on any bike ride - great pastries!

Great little bakery, which has also found its way onto the local Monopoly Board - good coffee and tasty pastries!

The River Avon is spectacularly pretty, particularly in Salisbury and upstream. Woodford Bridge is a gorgeous place to view it, complete with weeping willows pouring their fronds over the surface and swans drifting in the sunshine. The riverside here has a well-placed pub and a few benches for you to while away the hours in utter serenity.
