They are worth a visit by bike

In the course of its history, Messina not only experienced heydays and destruction under the changing rulers. Heavy earthquakes in 1783 and 1908 and bombing raids in World War II repeatedly destroyed large parts of the city. Today Messina is one of the economic and cultural centers of Sicily.

More than 400 aquatic species live within the nature reserve, of which at least ten are endemic.

Messina is a Sicilian port city, famous for its Duomo and the Strait. From here the ferries leave for the Peninsula.

The so-called pylons of the strait (called individually in the Messina and Reggio dialects u piluni) are disused pylons of the 220 kV high voltage power line that for thirty years, from 1955 to 1985, crossed the Strait of Messina between Calabria and Sicily [1]. These are two independent steel towers, one located on the Sicilian shore and the other on the Calabrian one.

On the way to Torre Faro, Viale Cariddi passes right by the Lago di Faro lake. From here and from the small bridge below you have a great view of the lake.

This lake is located a few kilometers from Messina and is connected to the sea by three very ancient canals including the Catuso canal and the Carmine or Due Torri.
