"Discover the story of the original Salisbury and take the family for an action-packed day out at Old Sarum. Stand in the footprint of Salisbury's first cathedral, conquer the ruins of the royal castle, and discover the awe-inspiring landscape where it all began. One of the South’s most significant historic sites – William the Conqueror once hosted a great gathering at Old Sarum. Soak up the atmosphere as you explore a city lost to time. There’s over 2,000 years of history to discover, as well as unrivalled views across the Wiltshire countryside. (Text from https://www.visitwiltshire.co.uk/salisbury/things-to-do/old-sarum-p133943 )

7월 1, 2024, St Thomas’s Church, Salisbury
"St Thomas’s belongs to the Church of England and is also part of the Inclusive Church initiative, which means that we are committed to ensure that all are truly welcome, whatever their story. ... Our beautiful building is the latest one on this site which has been used for worship for nearly eight hundred years. Most of the building seen today dates from the 15th century, and the church houses many treasures from across the centuries. St Thomas's has always been the church of the City, and the painted badges of the Guilds are still visible in the medieval wall paintings of the Lady Chapel." A television series that I can wholeheartedly recommend presents the culture-loving viewer (in German) with remarkable examples of human activity from many countries around the world. What they all have in common is that they have been given "world heritage" status by UNESCO. One of the contributions documents the ancient and still mysterious stone circle of Stonehenge. The accompanying documentary states: "The Salisbury plateau in southern England is a rough and uninviting area, where a cold and cutting wind often blows. Around 5,000 years ago, in the Neolithic period, people lived here, about whom we know very little. But what they and subsequent generations left behind is impressive beyond measure: the stone circles and burial mounds of the megalithic culture." 5월 10, 2024, Queen Elizabeth Gardens
This is a beautiful riverside park with splendid views towards Salisbury Cathedral. Created in the early 1960s to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, it's been a popular spot for locals ever since. You can run through the park to pick up the Town Path, which ventures across Salisbury's water meadows to the suburb of Harnham.

2월 2, 2024, View of Stonehenge from the Public Path
Outside the barrier, a path runs past Stonehenge, probably the most famous stone circle in the world. Hardly any other place is so shrouded in mystery and magically captivates visitors. Stonehenge is the symbol of mystical England, the epitome of all myths and legends and a highly recommended travel destination. A (paid) circular route leads around the stone circle of Stonehenge; with the help of an audio guide you can find out details about the history, construction work and the legend of Stonehenge.
