Since the lighthouse is associated with the literary work of Virginia Woolf: Tilman Spengler is the man on German television who brings great authors and their works closer to culturally interested viewers. His series "Classics of World Literature" pays tribute to writers from all eras with a 15-minute episode (in German). One of these writers is Virginia Woolf (1882–1941). The Portreath Branch Line of the Hayle Railway. Portreath's second tramway, the branch line opened in 1837. It was always steam hauled and terminated in the famous 1:10 incline at Portreath. Coal was hauled up and empty wagons lowered simultaneously by a stationary steam engine at the top. It was always horse drawn to the harbour. There is no public access at present but it is hoped to open it up as a footpath in the future.

It's not just the crooked beech tree that's a beautiful photo to behold. The tree a little further away, with its numerous glimpses into its trunk, is also a sight to behold!

Lovely beach for surfing and bodyboarding. Lifeguard is patrolling the beach from 10-6. There’s a surf shop where you can hire wetsuits and boards (they also do surf lessons). A small beach shop, pub and bar are also here. If you have a doggo then your woofer can only go on the beach in the morning until 10am and then in the evening after 6pm.

Beautiful views across the bay, particularly at sunset.

With a bit of luck, you might not only see the lighthouse here, but also seals. It's right on the SWC Path, but there's also a parking lot there.
