It's unbelievable what people have achieved and built in the past (without any technology) - it's simply impressive and breathtaking

Can someone please be happy/laughing with me that Google Translate turns Amy's "henge and timber monument" into "Denkmal für Hühner 🐔" in German? - Great 😂😂😂

Location signage, that is, how to locate the cuckoo stone, is non-existent! Once you pass through the gate next to Woodhenge you’ll see the National Trust sign. The stone lies way off to your right at about 3 o’clock direction from the sign. If the grass is long it won’t be visible!

Like the larger megaliths that make up the outer ring of Stonehenge, the Cuckoo Stone is a sarsen stone and was once a standing stone. It has since fallen but is still a familiar landmark and is part of the wider Stonehenge Landscape. It's believed that the Cuckoo Stone was the ceremonial centrepiece for several burials around 2000 BC.

Sarsen stones are blocks of sandstone found in large numbers in England, it is a contraction of Saracen stone, where “Saracenic” is equivalent to “pagan”. In this respect, sarsen means something like “heathen stone”, “stone of the heathen”. The most famous sarsen stones can be found here in Stonehenge.

An excellent campsite open all year round, and just off the King Alfreds Way. There are clean indoor showers and toilets, as well as a laundry room and washing up area. You will need 50p to use the showers. There's also an option of staying in a pod or self contained apartment. Within a five minute walk is a friendly pub specialising in Italian food.

You can take a nice cross country hike from the interesting historic Woodhenge ancient monument to the global icon that is Stonehenge. If you do this hike then you will save the parking and entry charges at Stonehenge (£30 ish). If you pay you get to go closer to Stonehenge (about 30m) but you get to within 70m on this walking route. You simply end up on the other side of the fence to the ticket purchasers. Plus you get a good walk out of it. Depends on what you want? Parking at start point. Hike Route - https://www.komoot.com/tour/1058100383

Really nice campsite to stay and right on the King Alfreds Way. Very friendly clean and well run. You will need 50p for the showers. There is a well stocked garage five minutes walk offering coffees and all the food needed for a days cycling. Pub is also five minutes walk only did pizza whilst we were there, friendly service and excellent pizza.

We first considered whether we should save the entrance fee and use the outer path. However, we were not so sure about the parking situation from the northern entrance, which is why we decided to pay the entrance fee and took the bus from the visitor center to the bus stop right in front of the stones. We were a lot closer to it, especially on the south and west side, than the path of the non-payers, which leads past the stones at a greater distance. Since we will probably not have this chance again to look at the stones up close, we have not regretted the entry. By the way, cheaper with National Trust!

Brilliant campsite in Tilshead within walking distance of the (very good) pub. They're bike friendly and you can even upgrade to a pod or hut if you don't fancy camping! Great facilities, although you will need some coins for the showers! More at: https://bradesacre.co.uk/

There are various, partly complementary, partly contradictory hypotheses about the reason and ultimate purpose of this highly complex system. These range from a self-portrait of a prehistoric alliance between two formerly hostile tribal organizations to a burial site, an astronomical observatory including a calendar for the sowing and harvesting times and a religious place of worship.

Lying within the Stonehenge World Heritage Site, Woodhenge is a Neolithic Class II henge and timber circle monument. It wasn't discovered until 1926 when a pilot took an aerial photo of the area. The monument was probably built around 2300 BC as a large burial mound. The site is managed by English Heritage and free to visit. You can visit anytime during daylight hours. One can measure his powers at this Sarsonstein. To get the stone moving, I still need 80 times.
