Not as stunning from below as from above!

Tip: We have been here three times over the last few years and each time we managed to get a table in the café at the top of the street. One of the most beautiful views in England is made even more beautiful with cream tea or another treat! Here you sit quietly and just wait until no one is in sight: and then quickly take your dream photo! In addition, the service is friendly and the prices are not too high. The view of Gold Hill is nowhere better than from here.

An iconic hill made famous by the Hovis adverts.

King Alfred's Tower is managed by the National Trust and is part of the nearby Stourhead estate. The tower is a 49m high folly designed in 1772. It's believed to mark the site where King Alfred rallied his troops in 878.

Longleat House drive is a stately way to arrive at the house and a great road to ride. The house and surrounding safari park are paid entry but there is access via this road and several others through the estate.

An "Hovis Loaf" to celebrate the Ridley Scott advert was created in 1980 and placed at the top of the hill as a donations box and info point, but was subsequently moved to a siding outside the Town Hall to prevent vandalism and accidents. Gold Hill is a steep cobbled street in the town of Shaftesbury in the English county of Dorset. The view looking down from the top of the street has been described as "one of the most romantic sights in England." At the top of the street is the 14th-century St Peter's Church, one of the few buildings remaining in Shaftesbury from before the 18th century.
