Great photo opportunity, but the area can be busy depending on the weather and it’s likely any progress on a bike would be very slow. Early mornings and evenings are good.

The weir spans the River Taff, which flows directly through the heart of South Wales. It's a nice place to stop and refuel with picnic benches and a peaceful atmosphere.

The pretty Radyr Weir spans over the River Taff and is currently working as a hydropower scheme, providing energy locally. You may find wild salmon and sea trout near the weir, as well as cormorants and grey herons.

A stunning classic welsh castle in the heart of the town. Theres a road that loops all around the castle for a good 360 view. Can be quite busy at times being in the town centre

A beautiful woodland ride along Penrhos Cutting cycle path linking Taffs Well and Caerphilly. Gentle gradient

A tough climb that many have faced at the back end of the velothon. Can be added into a loop for hill reps easily, if you are that way inclined...

Heading away from Caerphilly along this stretch you can see the incline just waiting to test your legs, gets a bit narrow under the rail bridge, as Craig says look out for speeding motorists

Great place to stop for a while and watch the ducks

Nice smooth bike path. Good alternative to avoid roads, usually quiet, just mind the odd dog walker here and there.

Stunning Castle, well worth a day out..

Roads are quite and the climbs a re challenging without being unbearable.

a great stop place to rest have a coffe and cake full your bottle of water and enjoy some view ... the old locks serve now as a pond for ducks and small fish and summer makes this place the great bruch / picnic spot not to crowded but not a lonely place either.

An absolutely brutal climb, but an absolute must for every cyclist.

Caerphilly castle look spectacular, must go around it one day

Picturesque, mostly rollers, decent surface (with the odd pothole here and there). More of a descent from the Caerphilly side with a lump at the beginning, gradual drag from the Lower Machen side.

Good little cut through up over into Lisvane. Good climb up through the farm Passable on a road bike just turns a bit rough past the farm. Also watch out for the gate after the first decent.

The bike path through Penallta Park is a great alternative to the busy road. It’s also pretty peaceful as you come past the lakes.
