6월 7, 2024, Corfe Castle Town Hall
Named after the dramatic castle ruins that sit on the high above the village, Corfe Castle is a delight to explore. Built strategically at a gap in the Purbeck Ridge, the castle dates back to the 10th century and is today owned by the National Trust. The village is built from characteristic grey Purbeck limestone and boasts a wealth of places to eat and drink, as well as many accommodation options. The walking in the region is superb, with the heaths, hills and, of course, the excellent coast path.

6월 4, 2024, Copper Bridge
This bridge was once on the main road to Church Knowle from Corfe Castle. Built in the 1800s, today Copper Bridge is a pretty sight not far from Corfe Common. To the side of the bridge is a ford, constructed to allow animals to cross the Corfe River.

On the top of Knowle Hill at a point were six paths meet stands a memorial to Mary Baxter who died in 1988. She was a stalwart of the East Dorset Group of what was then known as the Ramblers' Association (they no longer associate, now they just ramble). The six dressed stones making up the hexagonal base give directions along each of the paths, whilst the rough cut seventh stone perched somewhat uncomfortably on top of them carries a plaque which reads: THESE STONES COMMEMORATE MARY BAXTER M.B.E. (1919-1988) She helped to conserve the Dorset countryside and protect its footpaths Donated by members of The Ramblers' Association.

10월 30, 2022, Corfe Castle Town Hall
Discover over a thousand years of history when visiting Corfe Castle and the surrounding village. The keep was built in the 12th century for King Henry 1st, the son of William the Conqueror. The castle was owned by friends of King Charles during the English civil war and successfully defended two separate sieges before falling to a treacherous son of Lady Bankes. Cromwell ordered the castle to be destroyed and the damage done is what you see today. The castle remained in the Bankes family until it was gifted to the National Trust in 1982. Now you can visit and wonder around the ruins and pretty village. There is a NT shop and cafe as well as bakery and other pubs in the area. Pay to enter unless you are a NT member. Open 10:00 - 17:00 everyday.

Early settlementEdit Corfe Castle was probably settled 8000 years ago by Europeans who had immigrated from the mainland. Later, around 1300 B.C. The Durotriges, a Celtic tribe, probably also settled in the Corfe Castle area. Around AD 50, Romans settled near Corfe Castle, who most likely lived peacefully with the Celts at first. Nevertheless, the Romans later defeated and drove out the Celts at the Battle of Maiden Castle. https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corfe_Castle_(Location)
