A wonderful area. Breathtaking views of the cliffs and the sea; it's worth coming here for hiking and, in the summer, definitely for swimming. I recommend staying at the nearby Durdle Door Holiday Park.

Durdle Door is the stunning and much photographed sea arch to the west of this headland and Man o' War cove lies to the east. Both beaches are great for a swim and the coast path along here offers miles of wonderful running. It can get very busy here in good weather but it's still worth a quick stop to look at the geology, when you start running again it only takes a few minutes to leave the crowds behind.

Bat's Head is a chalky promontory in the south Dorset coast. At the base of the cliff is a bat's cave and from the top you get awesome views out to sea and along the coast. Durdle Door to the east is particularly good from here.

This used to be the place to go on the south coast but unfortunately now everyone has realised this. Will be keeping my favourite purbeck beaches secret from now on.

The Armoured Fighting Vehicle School of Gunnery was established at Lulworth Camp on 2 February 1918. The Centre has trained members of all three armed Services. The primary focus is on the Army, with soldiers from the Royal Armoured Corps, the Royal Artillery, the Royal Engineers and the Infantry undertaking individual training on the full range of armoured fighting vehicles, but armoured vehicle training for the Royal Marines takes place there as well. However, the military association with Lulworth began much earlier

It's not every day that you're cycling along and spy a few massive tanks loitering on the side of the road. Ride near Lulworth Camp though and you're guaranteed to see at least these ones on display, if not some real ones crossing roads. This is the home of the British Army's Armoured Fighting Vehicle Gunnery School. As a result, the actual ranges themselves, whilst very pleasant to ride across, are closed sometimes for live practice. These display tanks are impressive and serve as a warning to always check the firing times and area for warning flags!

There are brave ones who bathe here in January. Big advantage: You have the wonderful beach for yourself and many fans who would like to take a photo of you home.
