6월 27, 2025, Thomas Hardy's Cottage
* Historic Structure: The cottage itself was built in 1800 by Hardy's great-grandfather and has remained largely unaltered since the Hardy family left. It offers a glimpse into 19th-century rural life, with its open hearths, small windows, and stone floors. While the furniture inside isn't original to the Hardy family, it is authentic to the period, helping to recreate the atmosphere of his upbringing. * National Trust Property: The cottage is now owned and managed by the National Trust, ensuring its preservation and public access. * Traditional Cottage Garden: The property features a typical cottage garden, complete with roses around the door, which would have been an early inspiration for the author.

* Hardy's Early Life and Works: Hardy lived in this cottage until he was 34 years old. It was here that he wrote some of his early and influential works, including the novels Under the Greenwood Tree (1872) and Far from the Madding Crowd (1874), as well as early poetry and short stories. The surrounding landscape, including the adjacent Thorncombe Wood and the heathland (which inspired his fictional "Egdon Heath" in The Return of the Native), profoundly influenced his writing.

notable for being one of the first planned settlements in England. In the 1770s, the owner of Milton Abbey, Joseph Damer (later Lord Milton and Earl of Dorchester), decided the original village of Middleton was spoiling his view and commissioned architect Sir William Chambers and landscape gardener Capability Brown to design a new village in a nearby wooded valley. The old village was demolished, and most of its residents were relocated to this new model village, now known as Milton Abbas. The village is characterized by its single, sinuous main street lined with 36 almost identical whitewashed and thatched cottages. These were originally designed to house two families each.

Worbarrow Bay is a large broad and shallow bay just to the east of Lulworth Cove. The residents of Worbarrow were required to leave their homes in 1943, including the Miller family who had lived at Worbarrow for many generations. Little evidence now remains of the eight cottages and coastguard station (disbanded in 1910) that once stood close to the bay. The area is only accessible when the ranges are closed.

11월 29, 2022, Milton Abbas Village
Milton Abbas was created in the 1770/80's after Lord Milton decided that the village of Middleton was disturbing his rural peace at nearby Milton Abbey. He therefore asked Capability Brown, a famous landscape gardener, to create a new village in a nearby wooded valley. He then relocated most of the villagers of Middleton.

7월 15, 2022, Woolsbarrow Hillfort
Woolsbarrow Hillfort is located in a clearing in the forests of Bloxworth Heath. The nearest town is Bere Regis, about 3+1⁄4 miles (5.2 km) to the west-northwest of the hillfort. The heath is a popular walking area and the site can be reached by public footpath. Woolsbarrow is a slight univallate hillfort on a flat-topped knoll on the plateau of Bloxworth Heath, which separates the rivers Sherford to the east and Piddle to the west. The hillfort is marked by a single rampart about 20 feet (6.1 m) below the top of the gravel knoll and covers an area of around 2+1⁄4 acres (0.91 ha). The eastern part of the hillfort has been damaged by sand and gravel extraction, but much of it survives well and has the potential for further archaeological evidence to be uncovered. It is one of only about 150 slight univallate hillforts nationally and is of national importance.

4월 21, 2021, Milton Abbas Village
Made up largely of thatched cob houses, Milton Abbas is not only one of the most picturesque villages in Dorset but it is also the first planned village. Built in the 18th century, Lord Milton disliked looking at the village of Middleton and wanted a more rural vista. As a result, he ordered it demolished and moved the village a short way to the south east. The village is particularly interesting as it features 36 near-identical houses. It's very pretty and has a pub, perfect for a lunch stop.

An exceptionally pretty semi-circular bay, this is a wonderful place for a swim or to simply admire the stunning chalk cliffs. Worbarrow Bay is part of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site and fairly out of the way, making it usually quiet. It's important to note that the bay falls within the Lulworth Firing Ranges and therefore access is limited to most weekends and public holidays. Dating back to the 9th-5th centuries BC, this relatively low-lying hillfort rises out of Bloxworth Heath. The heath itself has plenty of hiking trails criss-crossing it as well as an abundance of insect, bird and wildlife. There's a trig pillar on top of the fort, at 220 feet (67 m) and if you ramble about the fort a little, you'll find interesting views of the undulating heathland.

A fantastic nature reserve, made very popular by an appearance on BBC Springwatch. It has variable habitats including deciduous and coniferoues woodlands, heath and a small stretch of beach in Poole Harbour. Much of the reserve has good views over the Isle of Purbeck and Poole Harbour to places including Corfe Castle and Brownsea Island.
